About the Artist

April Moseley, the artist, is an active duty Navy spouse.  Her husband is the Assistant Supply Officer onboard the USS Nimitz.  April & her husband and new Boxer puppy, Thor, live in San Diego, CA, near the picturesque Mission Trails Regional Park area.  April spent the first 27 years of her life in Georgia prior to marriage and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Banking & Finance (and also 3 yrs worth of separate credits towards a Bachelor of Science in Biology) from the University of Georgia.  She & her husband have been stationed in Puerto Rico, Virginia, Hawaii, Philadelphia, and San Diego, CA.

April was in a very bad car crash in Puerto Rico in Oct. 1995. After almost a year of recovery, surgeries, electric shock therapy & passive then active physical therapy, she overcame total paralysis in her left arm and currently has greater than 95% use of her arm. Having gone thru all that, she decided to live life to its fullest and to appreciate the beauty around her. When they moved to Oahu in 2000 (previous duty station), April was so overcome by the beauty of its flowers and scenery that she decided to start painting the ocean and the tropical flowers, despite having had no training whatsoever in art.   Her very first paintings were done in 2001. April considers herself a wildlife artist predominantly, as she feels deeply in-tune with the animal world, although she will occasionally paint a nice landscape or seascape or a floral painting.

April is self-taught in oil painting with brushes. Since beginning painting, she has taken a palette knife oil painting class from master landscape painter George Eguchi in Honolulu and a drawing class and a watercolor class at Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia. She also has learned from numerous art books and painting videos.  She sold paintings to Waikiki visitors from around the world at the Honolulu Zoo Fence Art Show on weekends in 2002-2003, on Ebay auctions, thru various commissions, and word of mouth. Her paintings have been bought by art connoisseurs worldwide. 

April is a proud member of JOLAF (Juried OnLine Arts Festival, www.jolaf.com), Electronic Cottage Online Gallery (www.electroniccottage.com), and NOAPS (National Oil & Acrylic Painter's Society, www.noaps.org). April welcomes critiques or inquiries regarding her paintings.
